Scheerlinck Consulting

I'm Eva Scheerlinck

— a lawyer and former peak-body CEO with 25 years in governance. I help not-for-profits, associations and member organisations strengthen their governance, sharpen their boards and move complex stakeholder issues to a decision.

My approach

Principles-based, not prescriptive

Setting clear standards while allowing flexibility for different organisational
contexts.

Evidence + procedure driven

Grounded in stakeholder feedback, data analysis, and regulatory requirements.

People-first focus

Prioritising frameworks that protect and
empower the people they're designed
to serve.

What I do

Code Development + Review

I develop and review codes of practice for regulated sectors. I created the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees Governance Code in 2017 (used by over 50 superannuation funds), supervised its comprehensive 2022 review, and currently chair the Code Authority for the Fundraising Institute of Australia. I conducted the independent review of the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice (2025–26).

Governance Assurance

I help boards test whether their governance actually works - not just how the board runs, but the delegations, policies, risk settings and information flows behind every decision. I spent seven years as AIST's Executive Manager, Governance and Stewardship, and 13 years running national peak bodies, so the frameworks I build are ones I've had to live with myself.

Stakeholder Consultation

I design and facilitate stakeholder consultations on complex, sensitive issues. I've led industry-wide processes on insurance in superannuation, governance practices, and financial hardship -convening industry, regulators, consumer advocates and government. I build workable consensus while maintaining independence.

Why Scheerlinck Consulting?

Proven expertise

Creator of the AIST Governance Code (2017), serving 50+ reporting entities. Current Chair, FIA Code Authority.

Consumer champion

Passionate about financial inclusion, fair treatment and governance that serves customer-owners, not shareholders.

Peak body expertise

Thirteen years as a peak body CEO taught me that the hard part of governance reform is rarely the drafting. It's holding the membership together while you do it. I now advise association and not-for-profit boards from the other side of the desk.

Practical frameworks

Principles-based solutions that balance aspiration with capability.
Real-world implementation experience.

Current projects

Just completed: Independent Review of Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice.

Comprehensive review of the banking code serving Australia's customer-owned sector – consulting with consumers, regulators and ~50 subscribing institutions to ensure the Code remains fit-for-purpose.

Let’s talk.

If you require independent expertise to resolve governance challenges, structure a code of practice, or conduct stakeholder consultation, I'd welcome a conversation.
